Some comforting words from the London Underground

I can’t remember exactly how old I was when this happened. Perhaps 12, or 13. But although I did not realize this at the time, it was an event which changed my life.

I was standing on the platform of the West Kensington tube station, waiting for a train, when my eyes fell on a nearby placard. There were two quotes on this placard, one of which transfixed me. It tunneled its way into my heart in a nanosecond, where it has remained ever since, a permanent source of comfort and strength amid the challenges of this life.

“Behold, I am with thee, and I will keep thee, whithersoever thou goest,” said the quote.

As time has passed, I have come to realize–and continue to realize–that the words of this quote do not come from some source external to myself. They are my own words, rightly.

They are a means–not the only means, of course–whereby I can offer some comfort, hope and courage to my human self–this tall, thin Brit called Christopher–when it is needed.

My love to you all. Would love to hear from you if you have any thoughts on the above.

PS Incidentally the quote is from Genesis 28:15. I think the modern version of the quote is a bit different from the above. I prefer the original, though.
