It was Christmas Day about 80 years ago. I woke up early, heart pounding with excitement, and crept quiet as a mouse out of my room.
I’d done my best to impress on my parents what I really, really wanted more than anything else in the world–but had they really heard me?
I crept into the hall and saw–yes–leaning against the wall beside my door–the special gift for which I had longed. I remember the smell very clearly even now: the smell of my first “real” bike, brand-new, shiny, black. My parents had come through for me.
We all have a special gift waiting for us this Christmas season. It’s a gift, if I’m not mistaken, that deep in our heart we long for more than anything else in the world.
It’s our birthright, this gift. It was given us long ago before we were even born. It’s the peace of our own eternal being and it waits for you right now. All we have to do, you and I, is open our eyes and receive it.
What does the scripture say? I open my King James Bible, and I read, in chapter 14, verse 27 of John: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
My love and blessings to you.
