My new friend Skye

I was wondering what to write about for this post, beyond, of course, wishing you a very Happy New Year, when my wife JoAnn came to my rescue. “Why not write about how you met Skye”, she said.

We had a surprise call from my wife’s daughter Sherrie just before Christmas saying she had bought a new dog named Skye, and would we like to come over and meet her? It sounded like a cool idea and over we went.

Skye is a one year-old husky mix, white in color and with startling blue eyes. Usually dogs are drawn to JoAnn, not me, but on this occasion, no sooner had I had sat down than Skye bounded toward me and asked me, in doggie language, for a pet.

I gave her a pet, and another pet, and then half-a-dozen more, and after I had finished admiring her, she stretched herself out on her tummy in front of me and simply looked at me.

With her back legs stretched out flat behind her and her chin (do dogs have chins?) resting comfortably on the floor between her paws, Skye turned her bright, piercing blue eyes up at me and we engaged in a silent conversation that seemed to last for quite a while.

What passed between us in those moments? I believe it was love. When you get right down to it, there is only one being in this world, only one intelligence, only one source of love and wisdom and happiness, and its name, I believe, is love.

Let us be grateful for the love that is ours to share as we move doggedly and bravely into whatever it is that 2019 may hold in store for us.

As always, I would love to hear from you if you have any thoughts on the above.

PS Don’t get the impression Skye is sweet and innocent all the time. If she’s in the mood it only takes her a moment to “steal” something that isn’t really hers!
